A New House and a Bowl Full of Curry
Hey everyone! You may or may not have noticed my blogging absence the last few weeks. If you did, I apologize.
A couple of weeks ago, Dayv and I purchased our first house. A week leading up to the move, we were packing every single night after getting home from work. And, after the move, we've been working really hard to find the perfect place for everything, along with making frequent trips to Lowes, Home Depot, and Bed, Bath, and Beyond. And after nearly two weeks, things are coming along just fine. I'm almost happy. Almost but not quite.
I've been told by several people that no one moves into a new house and has everything perfect within the first couple of weeks. That it usually takes a few months, even. But, that's not how I roll. I'd rather have a perfectly ordered home within the first two weeks and be exhausted than be well rested and living out of boxes with no room to move. Because that's what causes me to have a meltdown(which I had about an hour after we moved in and I was surrounded by boxes). I'm extremely claustrophobic.
On Sunday, I was feeling very anxious after narrowly escaping a catastrophe with exploded pen ink and our white couch. I contemplated about what I wanted to get done considering the fact that Dayv was glued to the television watching football. I decided I needed to take some time for myself and do something where I could just zone out for a couple hours, all while feeling accomplished and happy.
I pulled out the vegan bible aka Veganomicon and scanned the pages. Does Veganomicon make anyone else feel better? It's full to the brim with endless possibilities. Any type of food you are in the mood for, it has for you to make and love. And what I needed was something that would make me feel warm and fuzzy inside, you know, because I was in my brand new beautiful home.
After going back and forth a bit, I made Red Lentil-Cauliflower Curry. It was warm, spicy, and comforting, just what I needed to relax and enjoy the moment. My first thoughtfully prepared dinner in my new kitchen. And now it is documented.
I'm also excited to announce that I will be participating in Vegan Mofo again this year! It was something I gave serious thought, considering how time consuming it is and the fact that I'm almost, but still not quite happy with my house yet. But, I knew I'd regret not being a part of this great communal event. So, it's definitely happening!
Thank you everyone for continuing to follow along and read my little blog. I love you all so very much.

welcome back :) that is one gorgeous bowl of curry. i'd have a meltdown looking at boxes and not having a working kitchen. i told my mom to come help if we find a place and decide to move.:) I told her i would cook everyday if she helped set up.
ReplyDeletei love your jars. my kitchen has become a mix of random size jars and needs a major redo! which is not happening until end of October for sure:) happy mofo! and dont forget to breathe in between:)
i definitely recommend your mom coming to help when you move. luckily, my mom lives less than 10 minutes away and came over the first few days to help with everything. moms are so good and getting stuff done!
Deletei love my jar collection. i actually pared down a bit when moving, which the help and encouragement of my mother in law. you can never have enough!
trying to breathe.. <3
i am dreading the whole situation:) the areas we are looking in are close to downtown, so all houses are very vertical.. good for daily exercise i think;) but not when i want the midnight snack:)
Deletemy mom has to come from India, and she cant plan for another 2 months.:) plus there are other things about being able to sell our current condo and so on.. man and all in the middle of mofo. we found a house which we both decently like and will be thinking for another day about it.. lets see. if i move, i will redo the whole kitchen.. right ow all my jars are of different sizes, diff size boxes and its just such a mess:)
you certainly do have a lot going on right in the middle of mofo! close to downtown sounds really nice and hip!
Deleteif you redo the kitchen, be sure to include pics. i love seeing kitchen remodels ;)
Congratulations on the move! Moving is always stressful and definitely takes a period of readjustment. It's hard when the easy things - like knowing which drawer the pizza cutter is in or where to find the coffee grinder - suddenly becomes a huge task. I'm so glad to hear that you'll be taking part in Vegan MoFo! I've missed your posts!
ReplyDeletethanks, cadry! luckily, the kitchen was the first room to be tackled, so i knew where all my tools were ;)
Deletecongrats on the house and about your commitment to the mofo! and I totally feel you- how can i possibly get work done if there are boxes around?! the curry looks delish as do those pretty blue cupcakes! aloha, a

DeleteWelcome back and congrats on the new house! I totally can relate - if there is still one box not unpacked then the house does not feel "done". Looking forward to what you have in store for Mofo! :)
ReplyDeletei'm ready to be "done". we're hanging the last of our stuff tonight. i decided ;)
DeleteI just unpacked and put away art supplies after being in our house a whole year! And we're still hanging artwork. But the house looked finished after the first week, because I have to have at least the appearance of order, if not the real thing. Congratulations on your first house!
ReplyDeleteappearance is definitely key! thank you ;)
DeleteCongratulations on the move - and more congratulations on the successful unpacking!

ReplyDeletehaha, i'd love to visit you!!
DeleteCongratulations on your first house! I know exactly how you feel, when we first moved in I wanted to get everything done right away rather than let it just sit for months on end.
