A place where me and things go together

Thursday, November 7, 2013

More than ever, I am desperate to catalog all of my thoughts, dreams, feelings, opinions, insecurities, and reflections that are in this little head of mine.

This little food blog has kept me going for nearly three years.  But, unfortunately, the passion that I once had for posting exclusively about vegan and gluten-free food has gone away.  I love eating, of course, but I realized recently that I hadn't posted for close to a month due to the fact that I just hadn't cooked anything interesting.  How unfair is it to myself that I've withheld the release and therapeutic value of journaling because I created boundaries on something that doesn't require boundaries at all?

When I started blogging in January 2011, I only read food blogs, specifically vegan ones, and really wanted to contribute to the dialog.  But, my feelings have changed slightly.  Yes, I am a vegan, and I'm married to a vegan, but it's not my entire life.  There are so many vegan blogs out there now, and so many cookbooks, that I almost feel guilty posting a recipe.  I know there are still innovative food bloggers out there, and I highly respect them (and I read their blogs!), but I'm just not one of them.  And I'm ok with that.

I want to curate a space that explores all aspects of my life, everything that may be going through my mind, things I am doing, places I am going, my relationships, my dreams, my home.  Even my food on occasion.

Thank you all so much for being supportive and continuing to follow along.  I'm excited about this new chapter and hope you all join me.

  3. I love what you said about creating boundaries for something that doesn't require boundaries at all. I often fall into that mindset of limiting what I put out to the world because I box myself into something and simply forget that actually - I can do whatever I want! Your post was a good reminder to let go of the boundaries. :)
I will definitely be following along on this new chapter of yours. Congrats on taking the first steps! xo

  8. What drew me to your blog in the first place, what made your blog resonate with me, was your words, your thoughts, your stories. The food was a huge plus too. ;-) I'm so excited for this next chapter of The Vegan Chickpea, filled with all of the things I love most about it. xx

P.S. I love the new look!

  9. As a non-vegan myself, what I have enjoyed most about your blog is the stories about your life that you weave in. Can't wait to read whatever it is that you want to share. Love you Cait!

  13. I can totally relate to this! For the longest time I found myself wanting to blog about something but then thinking "Well, it doesn't really fit on the blog." But...wait, what?? It's my blog! I can write about whatever I want, right? It did take time to realize this (and my blog is still mainly about food) but once I stopped restricting myself I felt so much more motivated to post. I hope you have a similar experience and I know I will enjoy reading whatever it is that you feel inspired to write. :)

  15. Hey Caitlin, you know I've been going through the same thing with my blog and I've been beating myself up about it bad. But with just a few words, you've made me realise what my problem is: "I created boundaries on something that doesn't require boundaries at all". You're brilliant, girl! Love your blog and love you :)

  16. I'm excited about the changes to your blog--I think if your passion changes, you should go with that and not feel obligated to stick to your original theme. That's the wonderful thing about blogging, it's such a fluid thing. Or at least, it should be!

  17. i'm so happy that you are going to do what makes YOU happy and fills you up - because after all, that's what it's all about. i know it can be tough to not write for an audience when you know you have one, but it's not the same as writing for yourself - thank you for the gentle reminder to look at myself too. xo
