Fashion | Nicora Shoes: Sylvia Mules

"I saw my life branching out before me like the green fig tree in the story. From the tip of every branch, like a fat purple fig, a wonderful future beckoned and winked. One fig was a husband and a happy home and children, and another fig was a famous poet and another fig was a brilliant professor, and another fig was Ee Gee, the amazing editor, and another fig was Europe and Africa and South America, and another fig was Constantin and Socrates and Attila and a pack of other lovers with queer names and offbeat professions, and another fig was an Olympic lady crew champion, and beyond and above these figs were many more figs I couldn't quite make out."- Sylvia Plath

The first time I read The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath, I was mesmerized by the fact that she expressed so many thoughts and feelings I had as a young twenty-something. I wrote down endless quotes from the book and still think of them often when the right situation presents itself.

This quote in particular is one I go back to again and again. For some individuals, the path is clear from the very beginning and they are willing to set aside beliefs of what is practical or safe in order to reach their goals. For others, the road may not be so visible and can take more time before their life pursuit is revealed to them. Even more, the most challenging aspect of it all may be that in order for one to reach their full potential and manifested life journey, they must quell the voice of fear, questioning, and reasoning. I think the most important characteristic that helps during these confusing times is self confidence and the ability to realize what is most important to make life an exciting adventure and journey to become one's most fully actualized self.

The Sylvia mules from Nicora are made from Kind Suede, made from recycled materials, Kind Leather, which is vegan, eco-friendly, and plastic-free(!), and wood. They are so stylish, can be dressed up or down, and are the easiest shoe to slip on in a rush. Best of all, they are so comfortable. I was never one to wear heels and was hoping the Sylvias would be my gateway into becoming more heel-friendly. Now, I'm all about heels, and wear these mules 4-5 days a week. I even want the Nicora Natalie heels to add to my collection.

Speaking of branching out and finding your path, Nicora very recently released limited edition apparel and tote bags, of which I am so in love. It's so amazing to see your favorite brands experimenting and doing new things, and totally kicking butt. Be sure to check them out.

  1. I love that quote! There certainly is a world of opportunity out there and it is so hard to decide which path to choose. I should know I have already chosen a few :) I love those shoes too!
